Are you looking for a vacation in the Langhe or Roero?

Langhe Roero Holiday: In Piedmont, the Unesco site

So, let’s start with the basics:

  • Sleeping in Alba or nearby?
  • How much time is necessary to visit Langhe and Roero?
  • In which period do you enjoy the vacations in these areas the most?

Alba Piedmont: its Duomo

Where you can sleep in these areas?

Alba Market

Alba or surroundings?

If you arrive in Alba by train and don’t have a car during your vacation, staying there is better.

In the small town, all walkable without problems, you can find restaurants, public transport, and clubs where you can spend the evenings. I can book some small B&Bs, more quoted hotels, or apartments. I will check for you.

If you arrive in Alba by car, I can book you some lovely accommodation in the hills, and we can choose the essential services you want to have together.

Whatever the case, your Langhe and surrounding area vacations will include a detour to this “capital of the Langhe.”

How much time is right to dedicate to Langhe and Roero to visit them?

Weekend nelle Langhe: panchine giganti

This is really “the mother of all questions”! It has no answer. The time depends on you and how long you have. In these areas, you can enjoy a weekend or every day for a more extended period without getting bored! The territory is vast and varied. And then, according to the SlowDays philosophy, these areas should be visited calmly… ADAGIO!

After taking a walk, drinking a glass of Barolo, or chatting in the cellar, you can tire yourself out choosing the best photo to take among these hills!

You will not want to run for a highway and immerse yourself again in the speed of everyday life!

But as I mentioned, each person has time to “pull the plug”!

What is the best time to come to this territory?

Foliage in the Langhe

Let’s say that autumn is the most famous time to visit the areas of Langhe and Roero. This magical period lasts from September to almost all of November and brings thousands of visitors to Alba. The grape harvest, the red hills of the vines that change their color, and the Truffle Fair, the festival that involves Alba and its surroundings, are sure attractions.

I assure you, however, that anytime you want and can come, you will be satisfied and live sweet, engaging, and unforgettable experiences!

In spring, the vineyards are beautiful; during the summer, you can still have cool temperatures on the hills and enjoy an aperitif by the pool or on a terrace with a view. During the winter, you will be enchanted by the bare hills, essential and delighted by the rich and stimulating food and wines!

Langhe, Roero for a weekend: SlowDays suggests

Saturday morning, Alba and its market! For noon, an aperitif with a splendid cutting board accompanying good wines. In the afternoon, one or two tastings in Neive? Barolo? Barbaresco? We will decide together! In the evening, a good and rich dinner in a restaurant will make you understand what Slow Food means! At night? In Alba or the hills, as you wish! After getting up lazily in the morning and having breakfast, you can head for the hills again. For lunch, a tasting/lunch at a winery will conclude this lovely break in our areas!

Langhe vacation in one week or more

You could spend a week wandering around in your car or riding your e-bike. The itinerary would adjust to your choice of means.

You should not miss a day in Alba, with a more in-depth visit and some interesting insights I can offer you in key, artistic, gastronomic or oenological areas.

Then, each day, a different village, and consequently a specialty to taste and understand: hazelnuts, cheeses, Barolo, Barbaresco, tajarin, bunet, Barolo Chinato or Moscato, and then Alta Langhe, our favorite bubbly! The embarrassment of choice!

Alta Langhe will not be missed if you love nature in its purest expression! And yes, because the glance is completely different! You will find the authentic expressions of the farming world and life in contact with nature!

You will also have time for a detour to the Roero and maybe even a weekend trip to nearby Monferrato in a week. Fantastic lands are characterized by a different essence that you will take home with their flavors and aromas! The white wines of the Roero and possibly the full-bodied and fragrant wines of the Monferrato will tell you a story from afar.

You can walk trails and stop for a few tastings if you wish. You can enjoy a few hours in a spa, guided by a Sommelier, and taste precious wines. Or you can join a cooking class and taste what you have prepared. I can let you discover how many types of Barolo there are and how different they are from Barbaresco. And why not? You will find that the bubbles that are born in our Piedmont are beginning to be known all over the world!

This may differ if you come during the Vinum period (in spring) or the Truffle Fair (in October) because these events are also excellent attractions to explore! I will be able to intersperse some truffle-related experiences!

What if you also want to DO something: What do I recommend doing in the Langhe and Roero?

Exploring the hills by Vespa or E-bike.

The rolling hills of Piedmont lend themselves perfectly to exploration on two wheels. Whether you want to ride or not, you can choose between e-bike tours or Vespa tours in Piedmont.

By riding around on two wheels, you will allow yourself the freedom to explore one of Italy’s most beautiful rural areas at your own pace. You can stop whenever and wherever you like, which is ideal for taking photos! In addition, our bike and Vespa tours include a visit to a Piedmontese winemaker, where you can taste different vintages and local food products.

You are having your best friend’s hen party or engagement party.

Another of the best things to do in Piedmont is to celebrate your future wedding. With its world-class wines and culinary delights, atmospheric cities, and beautiful landscapes, Piedmont is the perfect destination for hen parties, engagement parties, and weddings.

Our hen parties involve spending quality time with friends and loved ones, sharing fun experiences, and enjoying great food and wine. No drama, no obligations, and no muted celebrations!

From biking or horseback riding to visits to wineries and spa treatments, our hen parties offer a wide variety of things to do in Piedmont.

I am taking a wine and food discovery tour.

The winemaking traditions of Piedmont are so ancient, authentic, and worthy of protection that UNESCO has declared the entire region a World Heritage Site. This site is officially known and elaborated as the “Viticultural Landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato.”.

So, a wine tour is one of Piedmont’s best things to do. You will find some of the world’s most remarkable and unique wines in this region.

The main attraction of the Piedmont wine region is its outstanding red wines. Here you will find iconic reds such as Barolo, Barbaresco, and Barbera, all wine connoisseurs known as some of the best in the world. What distinguishes many of these red wines from most other Italian wines is that they are authentic to the region and produced nowhere else.

In addition to these great red wines, Piedmont also produces several superior white and sparkling wines. This is where you can taste delicious whites such as Moscato d’Asti, Cortese, and Arneis right at their origin. In addition, some of the region’s sparkling wines are still made according to strict historical guidelines. As such, they are among the most authentic wines on the planet.

In addition, Piedmont is also famous for its many food products, as well as its slow food activities. The Piedmontese town of Bra is the birthplace of the slow food movement, which has now spread worldwide!

On food tours in Piedmont, you can enjoy delicacies such as Alba’s white truffles, locally produced honey, cured meats and cheeses, and chestnut and hazelnut products. Alba, the capital of the Langhe, is, after all, the home of Nutella and Ferrero Rocher, some of the world’s most famous hazelnut foods.

Take a different walk every day to explore the hills on foot.

The top of slow tourism? The walks, the treks, the hikes. Call them what you like, but you can be sure: you will find ever-changing views in the Langhe and Roero. Every color of the leaves in the vineyards will tell you about the wine you can taste. Every season will make you fall in love.

One or more days can give you an idea of a beautiful and natural way to approach Nature.

On our Walking Tours page, you will find many ideas that we have tried and designed, one by one. Each walk has its food and wine “prize.” This is a beautiful way to enjoy the hills in pairs and groups.
