What to see in the Roero?
Certainly, the landscapes are more rugged, and the colors are contrasting. We find vineyards but also many orchards, woods, and Rocche.
The Roero area pleases because it allows for long walks in still virgin areasvirgin and offers passages in the woods where birds are the only sound.
Rock formations, the Rocche del Roero, occur in many areas, creating eventful vistas. In Sommariva Perno and Monteu Roero or Magliano and Castellinaldo, much of the Roero trails follow and cross the Rocche.
Its wines are no less impressive, either. The excellent Roero wine has a beautiful ruby color and a strong, aromatic flavor. But whites such as Arneis and Favorita are also excellent in this area.
Besides wine, fruit is significant in the economy of the Roero area. Strawberries, Peaches, Plums, Pears, and the Madernassa Pear are even DOP and have a Slow Food mention.
What to see in Guarene:
Guarene is part of the circuit of Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages thanks to its heritage, which is well preserved, both from an urban and architectural point of view. Recently, a widespread policy has enhanced and promoted the area. In the historic center you find three buildings protected by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage: the church of the Santissima Annunziata, the Re Rebaudengo palace and the castle of Guarene. In recent years, Guarene has also repeatedly proposed itself as a center for cultural events in the Roero and has hosted world-renowned artists several times. A beautiful open-air exhibition, with fixed or variable installations, colors and distinguishes the beginning of a walk overlooking the castle.
- Guarene Castle: The castle of Guarene is a magnificent manor that dominates and watches over this small village. A spectacular park surrounds this majestic 18th-century building and is a testament to Baroque architecture. Today, it has become a 5* hotel frequented by celebrities who arrive discreetly.
- St. Michael’s Church: This historic church is another jewel of Guarene. Dating back to the 13th century, it has an elegant facade and an interior richly decorated with sacred artwork.
- Old Town: For a picturesque stroll, walk the streets of Guarene’s old town. You will find old stone houses, quaint stores, and a pleasant traditional atmosphere.
